Zophar Warner Selections

Mr. Zophar Warner (1915-1991), was a founding member of the IPPS and a contemporary of Dr. Henry Skinner, David Leach, Fred Galle and Tony Shammarello.   Zo Warner’s selections of Species Azaleas are exemplary.

The Zo Warner Natural Hybrids have produced vigorous and variable seedlings.  The foliage on these plants tends to be superior to the Gregory Bald Hybrids from which these are thought to be derivative.

We ID these plants by where Mr. Warner planted them in his beds.
ZS stands for Zo Selection.
The plants are then numbered and marked as upper row “ur” or lower row “lr”.
